Pier St. House

Quiet And Secluded

The Pier Street House is just a short stroll from the Guardenia Street House and is even closer to the beach. Located halfway down a one-block-long rustic road, our house is just a few hundred feet from the beach. Beach access involves a stroll past the few houses to the end of the road, which ends at a shore-pine-covered rise with a short, easy path to the beach. The house is quiet and private yet still a part of this old-fashioned, rural micro-neighborhood.

The completely remodeled 2-story house has a vaulted ceiling, open floor plan, and natural wood paneling defining the living area. There is a wood-stove for that cozy warmth that only comes from a wood fire and of course our motley collection of books, games, and DVDs (Blu-Ray player). Excellent WiFi allows fast streaming with a large screen LED TV provided for videos, streaming or on-line content. Note: television service not provided. The comfortable dining area and kitchen are open to the main living area:

We love to cook! The kitchen is fully equipped: Jenn Air range and oven, Bosch dishwasher, microwave, blender, coffeemaker and coffee grinder, toaster, etc. Basically all the gadgets and utensils you will need to cook and serve anything from fresh crab bisque to muffins to hot dogs and s’mores.

Sleeping & Snoozing

Upstairs are 2 adjoining bedrooms: Master bedroom overlooks the balcony and the tops of the trees. In our opinion, luxuriating in a really comfy bed after a day of long walks on the beach is an experience not to be missed. To that end, the queen-sized bed includes a deep pillow-top mattress and plenty of snuggly blankets and a duvet. Next door is the Kids’ Bunk-room with two sets of colorfully outfitted bunkbeds (= 4 comfortable standard twin-sized beds). Ambience is strictly “Kid Decor,” although grown-ups are certainly welcome… Balcony: The hallway opens onto the long west-facing balcony: plenty of room for watching the sunset, and later, the stars. Settle into one of the adirondack chairs with a glass of local wine and a book from our library with accompaniment of the crashing of the surf and the marine breeze coming right off the ocean – just try to stay awake! The Downstairs Bedroom has a warm, cozy feel to it with the same super-comfy queen-sized bed as in the master bedroom. Sofa-sleeper: In the living room is a queen-sized sofa-sleeper. In cold weather, this location is often the “best seat in the house,” offering the appeal of drifting to sleep to the warmth and ambience of the wood-stove close by. Bath: The house has one bathroom, which includes a shower-bathtub combination.

Grounds: A covered deck (complete with picnic table) opens onto the completely fenced, very private backyard. A doggie door opens into the utility room of the house, separated from the rest of the house by a baby gate (so the possibly-still-damp canines can see and hear their humans while they air-dry). Washer & dryer are provided for your use. The entire property is lovingly landscaped (by moi) with Oregon natives throughout, always something new being added .

People and Dogs: The house can accommodate 10 people. Well-behaved dogs are always welcome.

Dogs and their Humans

Well-behaved dogs welcome! Tierra del Mar has an absolutely wonderful dog friendly beach, stretching close to 10 miles of pristine sandy beach. More often than not, you will have the entire beach to yourself. But even at the height of the summer season, a “crowd” constitutes 3 or 4 people, and if you continue just past the immediate area in front of Tierra del Mar (about 1/4 mile walking north), you are unlikely to encounter another (human) soul. No buildings of any sort. No roads. Access is by foot or horseback only. Walking several miles north along the beach brings you first to the vast protected nesting areas of the estuary and then to the natural area of Oregon’s newest state park, Sitka Sedge. Watch for seals in the surf during your strolls. They will often follow along with you for miles, particularly when you have dogs along, swimming just beyond the waves and popping their heads up now and again to watch your progress. Walking south a few miles brings you to the tide pools, sea caves, and the super-high dune of the sparsely visited north side of Cape Kiwanda. The house is only fenced on 2 sides, but the 3rd side opens into the uninhabited woods behind the house.

Capacity: The house can accommodate 9 guests.
