Guardenia St. House

Quiet And Secluded

Nestled at the edge of native hemlock and Sitka spruce forest, this extensively remodeled home is a pleasant stroll to the beach down a 1-block-long gravel road, dead-ending at the beach. An immense juniper deck wraps around 3 sides of the house, a perfect place to immerse yourself in the subtle sounds and scents of the forest, just a few feet away, with the ever-present roar of the ocean as accompaniment. Watch for the many birds & deer who visit regularly.

Build a fire in the fireplace in the evenings, make a grab for some cocoa (or glass of one of the local wines), and enjoy the multitude of rainy-day entertainment: Check out our eclectic library of books or the motley collection of board games. Excellent WiFi allows fast streaming with a full-sized LED TV screen provided for videos, streaming or on-line content. Note: television service not provided. Or simply curl up on one of the comfy couches or rocking chair, pretending to read a book and allowing yourself become mesmerized by the warmth and crackles of the fire (my personal favorite).

We love to cook! Beautiful, roomy kitchen with garden window, skylight open onto a patio. Tons of custom-tiled counter space. Fully equipped with full-sized fridge, range-oven, microwave, blender, coffeemaker and coffee grinder, toaster, etc. Basically all the gadgets and utensils you will need to cook and serve anything from fresh crab bisque to muffins to hot dogs and s’mores.

Sleeping & Snoozing

The stunning view from the very spacious Master Bedroom (king-sized bed) looks directly into the woods through floor-to-ceiling picture windows on 3 sides and skylights above, accenting natural cedar walls, vaulted ceiling, and hardwood floor. Private entrance opens onto the 1000-sq-ft juniper deck. The Small Bedroom is warm and cozy (double bed) with natural wood paneling, vaulted ceiling, and skylight. Our “Kid’s Bunkhouse” is tiny (1-room), adorably cute (!), and is bright and airy with lots of windows and its very own skylight. It sports a set of twin bunkbeds (plus a camp cot in case of a 3rd child who doesn’t want to be left out) and is decorated à la Kids’ Decor. It sits 3 feet from the bedrooms of the main house, adjoining the fenced kitchen patio and the deck. Sofa-Sleeper: The living room has a queen-sized sofa bed. In cold weather, this location is often the “best seat in the house,” offering the appeal of drifting to sleep next to the warmth and ambience of the crackling fire in the fireplace close by. Rollaway Cot: There is also a twin-sized, motel-style cot that can be moved anywhere…

Extra Stuff

The house has a single bathroom, remodeled with a tile-and-glass shower and lots of custom ceramic tile and wood. A new, extra-large-capacity washer & dryer are available for your use. Charcoal Weber BBQ is also provided. A medium-sized patio adjoins the kitchen and the “Kids’ Bunkhouse” with a small table and chairs. A wooden walkway meandering out into the woods leads to a platform with seating and a small picnic table. All cleaning is professionally done; all you need to do upon check-out is to wash your dishes, clean the BBQ (if you used it), and take the garbage out. We usually are able to keep firewood stocked for the fireplace.

Dogs And Their Humans

Well-behaved dogs welcome! Tierra del Mar has an absolutely wonderful dog friendly beach, stretching close to 10 miles of pristine sandy beach. More often than not, you will have the entire beach to yourself. But even at the height of the summer season, a “crowd” constitutes 3 or 4 people, and if you continue just past the immediate area in front of Tierra del Mar (about 1/4 mile walking north), you are unlikely to encounter another (human) soul. No buildings of any sort. No roads. Access is by foot or horseback only. Walking several miles north along the beach brings you first to the vast protected nesting areas of the estuary and then to the natural area of Oregon’s newest state park, Sitka Sedge. Watch for seals in the surf during your strolls. They will often follow along with you for miles, particularly when you have dogs along, swimming just beyond the waves and popping their heads up now and again to watch your progress. Walking south a few miles brings you to the tide pools, sea caves, and the super-high dune of the sparsely visited north side of Cape Kiwanda. The house is only fenced on 2 sides, but the 3rd side opens into the uninhabited woods behind the house.

Capacity: The house can accommodate 9 guests.
